What is the MPA

The McMaster Pain Assistant (MPA) is a suite of tools carefully designed to aid inter-professional primary care clinicians in assessing, monitoring and managing chronic pain.

These tools are designed specifically for the OSCAR open-source Electronic Medical Record (OSCAR EMR). These tools have given OSCAR the ability to "think" about pain and to teach the clinician about evidence-based guidelines in the moment of clinical care.

The MPA is integrated with other chronic disease management (CDM) tools so that workflow in assessing and monitoring individuals with multiple chronic conditions is efficient and effective.

The MPA promotes and supports Canadian guidelines for neuropathic pain (NeP) and for low back pain (LBP), as well as tools for general chronic pain management, tools for communication with specialists and insurance providers, and tools for patient self-management.

Many of the components are compatible with tablet and smart phone technology, and will be available in the future on the MyOscar personal health record (PHR) for direct access by patients.
